Hygienic Ceiling Upgrade for Food Prep Area

The Brief

Our client, meat wholesaler Willersey Provisions, required a refurbishment of their workplace in Worcestershire. Their vision was to modernise their existing food preparation area within their kitchen.

As with all our fit out projects, we begin with a project consultation. It’s here that we outline our client’s requirements and consider any logistics regarding installation. For this project, we established a brief:

• It was essential that their kitchen installation did not compromise their day-to-day work. We were flexible to our client’s needs and agreed to fit their suspended ceiling outside of their team’s operational hours.
• Another key requirement for our client was maintaining high hygiene standards. This applied not only to the kitchen ceiling but also to the work our installers conducted when removing the existing suspended ceiling system and fitting the new one. During this time, we needed to provide adequate protection to their kitchen area.
• With years of experience in the suspended ceiling industry, we provided the client with expert advice on the correct specification of ceiling tiles and ceiling gridwork. We selected kitchen ceiling panels and grid components that adhered to the desired levels of hygiene for the client’s workplace.

Once the project plans were signed off, we confirmed an installation date that best suited our client.

The Solution

Our fitters began by carefully dismantling the ceiling’s existing hygiene panels and removing all unnecessary waste. At every stage of this suspended ceiling installation in Worcestershire, we ensured that all of the kitchen equipment was protected. Once the existing commercial ceiling was removed, we set out the fit the new system.

We installed a hygienic ceiling that maximised ceiling height in the kitchen, with a low roof line. We specified and installed a PVC-faced suspended ceiling tile with a gypsum base. This wipeable ceiling tile is easy to clean, offering further sanitisation to our client’s workplace. 

The ceiling’s hygiene panels were fitted into a newly formed, lay-in suspended ceiling gridwork. The combination of the ceiling tiles and the ceiling grid offered a high standard of hygiene, as well as humidity resistance to withstand the kitchen environment. The ceiling tiles even provided a better degree of light reflection than their old system to brighten the workspace.
