Partitioning for Offices: The Ultimate Guide

Showroom Fit Out

Feel like your business is growing too large for your current premises? Does moving seem like a daunting task (especially when many companies remain fragile during the growth stage)?

Of course, there are worse problems to have. Business growth is inevitable within successful companies, but it may not need to be quite as stressful as you first imagined.

Have you considered office partitions? They’re an affordable solution that offers plenty of space optimising benefits. They can create anything from a new meeting room to an entirely new department within your current workspace.

What are Office Partitions?

Office partitions are internal walls used to divide open-plan spaces into more functional areas, such as private offices, quiet meeting rooms or breakout zones.

Demountable Partitioning

Office partition walls are a quick, easy and cost-effective way to divide up your office space.

They come in all shapes and sizes, from simple drywall to glass partitions.

Types of Office Partitioning

  • Demountable Partitions – A demountable partition can be unmounted, moved and reinstalled at a new location. The benefit of this in your workplace is that if your business is growing but you are not ready to relocate quite yet, you can install partitioning that can easily move with you as you grow, minimising downtime and expenses.
  • Drywall Office Partitions – This is a good option for many areas, especially if acoustics are important. This system uses 12.5mm plasterboard with cavity insulation sandwiched between. The boards are then taped and jointed, meaning that the walls can be painted or papered, drywall partitions can also provide a space to hang shelves, pictures or whiteboards. This system is very versatile and can divide an open space into smaller, more usable spaces, such as meeting rooms with good acoustics/soundproofing.
  • Glass Office Partitions – Glass is becoming increasingly popular in the office fit out industry. It gives a modern look to an office. Plus, installing glass partitioning also helps maximise natural light levels in the office.
  • Hygienic Partitioning – Hygienic partitions are generally required for clean areas such as laboratories, hospitals, food preparation areas and factories where dust and dirt may be an issue within the working environment. At Contract Interior Systems, we use a High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) composite board for our hygienic partitioning systems. This can be cleaned effortlessly.
  • Sliding Partitioning – Moveable walls and sliding partitions are an excellent way of dividing rooms with maximum flexibility. They allow you to quickly reconfigure rooms, whether you’re dividing a large meeting space or opening up floor plans for an event.
  • Fire-Rated Partitioning – Fire-rated partitions are designed to slow the spread of fire and help protect lives and property. We offer different systems to meet a range of fire-resistance ratings (typically 30, 60 or 120 minutes) to comply with UK building regulations and safety standards.
  • Industrial Partitioning – Industrial partitions are built for warehouses, workshops, production facilities and other industrial workplaces. They’re therefore robust, hardwearing and often use steel frames to withstand heavy use. They can be used to create offices, storage spaces or safe walkways within large industrial units.

Benefits of Office Partitioning

There are plenty of reasons for businesses to invest in office partitioning. Some of the benefits you’ll likely experience include:

Privacy

Being able to hold meetings without disturbing the rest of your workforce is essential to most businesses, and privacy is key for situations such as appraisals or HR meetings. Partitions are an easy and affordable way to create private rooms/sections within your office. Glass partitioning is a great way to allow staff to break away from the main office but still feel included in the surroundings.

Glass Office

Affordability

Installing partitioning is considerably more cost-effective than dividing an office with solid, permanent walls. Because partitioning systems can be easily relocated, they are an investment that will last, even if you have to move premises.

Flexibility

Along with the fact that they can be easily moved to new premises, partitions can also be moved around fairly easily within your current office. If you decide in the future to move things around, you have the freedom to do this with no extra cost and without the disruption of knocking down walls. Businesses change all the time with increasing staff levels and workloads.

Increased Natural Light

Glass partitions, as well as those with glazed windows, allow more natural light into your office, which creates an open and airy space and boosts productivity. Harnessing more natural light also means avoiding health risks associated with fluorescent lighting.

Office Design

Office partitions are becoming increasingly popular as design features within offices. Especially with glass partitions, it’s possible to make a bold statement and create a modern and professional look. Creating a partition also gives new space for decoration and branding. Why not add your company logo or create a feature wall to make your new partition reflect your brand identity?
