Smart Ceiling Solutions for a Modern Factory Floor

The Brief

Having recently expanded into a new factory unit, our client contacted our fit out experts at Contract Interior Systems for help transforming the environment into a functional, fit-for-purpose work space.

The project required the installation of a lowered suspended ceiling system to dampen generic factory noises, including sound from machinery, employees, vehicles and neighbouring warehouses. We specified and installed a specialist, hygienic ceiling tile to create a cleaner work environment, with a white surface to better reflect light and improve the quality of work and operations on the factory floor.

The Solution

Shortly after having contacted our team, we arrived on our client’s site to conduct a thorough survey. Taking a collaborative approach, we then constructed an accurate brief that ticked off every objective within our client’s project.

The interior fit out began with the quick and efficient installation of a flat commercial ceiling throughout the factory, fixed to existing perimeters. Whilst the idea was to lower the ceiling to mitigate sound, we found the sweet spot to ensure we were also keeping the ceiling high enough underneath the roof’s existing trusses to maximise the operational area below.

The roller shutters at the front of the premises needed to be fully operational at all times, posing a challenge during installation. To overcome this, we fitted a vertical ceiling bulkhead around the shutter’s perimeter, forming a rigid framework to maintain the suspended ceiling’s robust structure.

With the ceiling grid now in place, it was time to install the ceiling tiles. Having closely assessed the needs within the client’s workspace, we advised on a gypsum-based PVC tile; the PVC face helped to keep the factory interiors as clean and hygienic as possible. What’s more, the wipeable ceiling tiles can also withstand regular cleaning with harsh disinfectants without causing damage to the surface. Our fitters secured the ceiling tiles to prevent them from lifting out of the gridwork in heavy winds and drafts.

Now completed, the client is extremely pleased with the quality and speed of their project’s delivery.
