Our client, OKA Direct, needed a new suspended ceiling system to be fitted in their current workplace. They contacted our local commercial fit out team to manage the project from start to end, including both supply and installation services.
During their consultation, we were able to clearly establish their requirements: a suspended ceiling to provide access to the services that they would conveniently conceal within the ceiling void (between the tiles and the original soffit).
The commercial ceiling needed to have the appropriate fire rating, bespoke to our client’s property. Being an electrical cupboard, a fire rated ceiling was required to help protect their people and property.
The Solution
But, before we could begin with any kind of installation, we needed to visit our client’s site. We arranged a date, packed our vans and headed to Didcot. On site, our fitters carefully removed and disposed of the existing commercial ceiling.
It was a small but vital step to ensure a smooth project delivery on their scheduled installation date. Plus, we were pleased to be able to relieve our client of some of the workload by responsibly disposing of their old ceiling system for them.
We kept some of the existing LED light panels as these could be reinstalled later, with the relevant fire tents on top. This would help to achieve the required level of fire protection, as well as save our client any additional expenses that would otherwise have been spent on new office lighting.
At Contract Interior Systems, we have deeply rooted connections and a long (long) history within the suspended ceiling industry. That made it quick and easy for us to specify, supply and fit the ideal system for our client’s workplace. For example, on this project we used AMF Star ceiling tiles, fitted within an AMF Donn suspended ceiling grid.
When it comes to fire protection, there are many different factors to consider. From the installation method to the products used – even the composition of our client’s existing soffit – each factor has an impact on the overall fire rating of the ceiling.
Please Note: Fire protection within any space, not just commercial, is so incredibly important. If you’re fitting out your workspace, we always advise that you speak to a fire safety expert to ensure you’re meeting your building’s unique regulations and that you’re providing adequate protection to your team whilst they’re at work.
